Our trip to Antarctica in February 2005

We (Maria and Rod Thompson) visited Antarctica in February 2005 aboard the Barque Europa, a Dutch registered, three masted (square rigged) barque. This series of pages contains a selection of photos we took on the trip.

Sub-Antarctic Islands

Our first landfall after sailing from Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego (The Land if Fire) Argentina was in the South Shetland Islands. We visited the Aitcho Group and Deception Island

In the Gerlache Straight, while conditions were quiet, the boat was launched, and we were able to photograph the Europa under sail.

Getting there and back
