We visited the Aitcho group of islands, and Deception Island before reaching the Antarctic mainland. The main difference in appearance is the green mosses on the ground in the sub-antarctic islands. Such mosses are rare on the mainland. The islands support a higher population density of birds and animals than the mainland.
This is Baily Head, where we were at anchor for 24 hours
due to the second force 9 (Strong Gale) of the trip.
