Sub-Antarctic Islands - South Shetland

We visited the Aitcho group of islands, and Deception Island before reaching the Antarctic mainland. The main difference in appearance is the green mosses on the ground in the sub-antarctic islands. Such mosses are rare on the mainland. The islands support a higher population density of birds and animals than the mainland.
